How to use the Video to GIF Converter
- Choose a video file.
- Set the start time, length, frame rate and width.
- Click “Create GIF” and download the result.
Keeping GIFs small
GIF is an old format with a 256-colour palette and weak compression, so files grow quickly. For a GIF under a few megabytes: keep it under 5 seconds, use 10–12 fps, and a width of 480 px or less. Platforms like Slack and Discord have upload limits, and smaller GIFs load faster.
Which videos work?
Any video your browser can play: MP4 (H.264), WebM and, in Safari, MOV. If a video won’t load, it uses a codec your browser does not support.
Create a forward-and-backward loop
Choose reverse motion or forward then backward to create a boomerang-style GIF from your selected clip. Endpoint frames are not repeated when the sequence turns around. All frames are generated locally.
